THE RENAULT dealership in Slough is set to close by the end of this month - with 20 posts being affected before Christmas.

The dealership, located in 301 Bath Road, said the closure was due to ‘commercial reasons’.

A number of workers are understood to have been left frustrated amid claims of a lack of communication from the car giant.

One letter, sent to The Observer, additionally claimed that Renault staff were ‘worried about their jobs at Christmas’.

Renault insisted it would be trying to retain all its employees.

A Renault spokesman said: “We are currently working through a full consultation process with all employees, and the company’s aim is to redeploy employees to other local branches wherever possible.”

A source indicated that the facility may be taken over Mercedes-Benz, however, Renault refused to comment on this matter.

Simon Hall, economics and enterprise lead for Slough Borough Council said: “We are obviously disappointed that Renault has chosen to leave.

“Had they been in contact with us, we would have looked to support them in any way that we can, and understand what challenges they are facing.”

Mr Hall spoke positively regarding the suggestion of Mercedes taking over the facility: “We would absolutely welcome that. Mercedes is a very aspirational brand, and if they came in to do that, that would mean a lot of jobs and opportunities for local people.”
