A KIND volunteer is hoping to give the blind OAP she cares for a well-deserved boost – by winning a competition for a professional makeover of her garden.

Sarah Williams volunteers with the Guide Dogs charity and cares for Slough woman, Julia, who is blind, by acting in the place of a guide dog by helping her around the town.

Sadly, it is currently unsafe for Julia to enjoy her garden alone – as the paving slabs are uneven, and the fence panels require repairs.

Ms Williams said: “It’s a bit tricky, because the path is at different levels, and its difficult to her to use.

“The garden itself is mainly grass - she would love having plants she could smell and touch.

“She’s recently had a back operation, so her world has got even smaller as she’s unable to go out on her own or even walk very far.”

Ms Williams is hoping to get the winning vote in a ‘Garden Makeover’ competition by MyBuilder, an online marketplace for tradesmen. The winner of the competition, that has already seen over 15,000 votes cast in total, will have their garden professionally transformed.

Ms Williams said the gesture would give Julia, who is a pensioner, a massive boost.

She said: “A garden makeover would mean the world to her, giving her a little haven to relax and potter about in.”

Ms Williams has appealed for the public’s help in securing the prize for Julia – as it is voted for online.

Speaking about the competition, MyBuilder CEO Ryan Notz said: “Every year, thousands of people come to MyBuilder looking for talented tradesmen to help with their gardens, so we know how much gardens mean to people.

“This competition gives us the chance to help someone who really deserves the garden of their dreams, and we can’t wait to find our worthy winner.”

The company will work with Dobbies Garden Centres to help bring the winner’s garden to life with beautiful plants and flowers.
