A SCHOOL campus has been officially opened.

The Parliamentary under-Secretary of State for the School System, Lord Theodore Agnew, officially opened the campus of Eden Girls School, Bath Road, on May 14.

The free school has occupied the £22 million building since September 2017, which is managed by the Tauheedul Education Trust.

Lord Agnew, speaking after the opening ceremony, said: "The school’s state-of-the-art facilities are befitting of the passion and commitment so clearly on display among teachers and students – so it was an honour to be invited to such a special occasion.

"Eden Girls’ School is a shining example of the transformative effects that free schools can bring to communities across the country and reflects Tauheedul Education Trust’s determination to raise academic standards and improve the life chances of young people.

"I look forward to hearing about the school’s progress."

During the ceremony, students delivered a poetry recital, and listened to a speech by Year 10 pupil Aish Tahir on the subject of leadership, before Lord Agnew unveiled a plaque to mark the opening.

Karim Murcia, Principal of Eden Girls’ School, Slough, said: "This special occasion gave us the opportunity to thank the people who have provided the vision for our school and to express our gratitude to everyone who has worked so hard to make that vision a reality.

"The speeches from Lord Agnew and school governors served as a powerful reminder for us all of the values at the heart of our work and the ambitious aspirations that we can rightly hold for the future.

"Our students were, as always, the highlight of the day. I am very excited about the positive contribution that they are ready to make to their local community and British society.

"I sincerely hope that all our guests enjoyed the ceremony and look forward to our continued partnership as we work for the ongoing success of the school."
