Two dedicated groups serving their communities in Windsor and Maidenhead received a special thank-you at the House of Commons.

The Apul Pathak Community Awards - held to reward community charities - have been held for the fifth time at Westminster.

Awards were presented to groups across London and Berkshire.

From the Royal Borough they went to the Braywick Charitable Trust in Maidenhead, which ensures that people with a long term disability can receive the right support and services - and to Windsor Baptist Church's Tree House Café, which is a vibrant hub for people in need and facing challenges. It is supported and run by the church and volunteers.

Eight awards in total were made by Atul Pathak OBE, the managing director of the Appt Corporation, the UK’s leading McDonald’s franchisee with 31 restaurants located in north, west and central London as well as across Berkshire.

Each recipient was presented with a certificate and also a donation for them to put towards a particular project or objective.

Speaking after the awards Mr Pathak said: “We believe that a business has to be based in its community because it very much relies on that same community.

"Which is why it is important to inspire the local community to develop and flourish and champion local causes.”
