A CHARITY golfing event is to be held in the memory of a young girl who died due to serious illness.

The event will be in aid of Meningitis Now, and was set up by the family of Freya Gerrish, of Slough, who died February this year due to the disease. It will be held in Richings Park Golf Club, North Park, Iver, on Saturday, and run from 3pm to 10pm.

Paul Gerrish, grandfather to Freya, said: "Freya was three and a half years old and my family has been shattered by her loss. My daughter is only 20 years old and has another daughter 18 months of age. She has been so strong and as a family we wanted to try and ensure that we make everyone aware of this disease and raise funds for future research in alliance with the charity Meningitis Now."

Over 100 golfers are confirmed to be attending the event, which includes fun activities for kids including foot golf, a cross bar challenge, a bouncy castle, and face painting.

Mr Gerrish said: "We have received great support from local businesses who are sponsoring holes on the golf course, as well as donating prizes for the days raffle. We are expecting over 300 people in all to support our event for this important charity."
