Hundreds of people have come together to help support a family after their dog became seriously ill after swallowing a stone.

On Saturday, August 26, Dora, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, became very ill and required an emergency trip to the vet.

Upon investigation, it was found Dora had accidentally swallowed a small rock which had blocked her intestines.

An operation was undertaken which went well but left two sections of intestines with bruising - one later returned to colour and the other was removed.

The family, from Iver, were hopeful that Dora was on the mend but weeks with no improvement, her owners were left heartbroken at Dora suffering from continued sickness and body tremors.

Dora was taken to the Royal Veterinary College in London and is now being treated for Sepsis.

Samantha Thomasson took to GoFundMe on Friday, September 1, on behalf of Dora's owner Emma - who has struggled with the "crippling" veterinary bills.

She said: "As you can imagine these emergency vets bills have been crippling, and although Dora is insured the costs have been racking up.

"We know times are hard right now, but would be so grateful for any donations."

"We are hopeful she is finally getting the treatment to get her back on her paws and her tail waggling."

"We feel Dora brings so much light into our lives and we have all come to love this A-Dora-Bull Staffy."

Since the fundraiser was launched over 1,400 people have donated to the cause, amounting to £25,289 as of September 7.

In the most recent update given on Saturday, September 2, Samantha said: "We knew Dora was loved, but we had no idea just how incredible this community is.

"Dora went into surgery last night, It seems to have gone well and she is recovering in ICU."

"The Vets have been incredible at RVC London.

"The next step for Dora is to recover in ICU, we are hoping she can rebuild her strength to get through the next few hurdles.

"The final costs are still unknown, but far exceed the original estimate due to her stay in the ICU.

"This week will be another trying week for the family.

"But we want to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you. All your kind words and generosity have been such a comfort to Emma and the family, and funds raised will be able to cover the majority of these costs."

The GoFundMe page is still open and can be found here.
