The best pub in the area has been named by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

On March 11, Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead's branch of CAMRA announced that A Hoppy Place in Maidenhead had been awarded 'Pub of the Year 2024'.

The Windsor Trooper narrowly missed out and was named as runner-up.

However in the award for 'Cider Pub of the Year 2024', The Windsor Trooper took the top spot and A Hoppy Place came runner up.

CAMRA said: "We had more votes than ever before for this year.

"Thanks for taking part and good luck to A Hoppy Place at regional."

A Hoppy Place will now go on to compete against the winners of other regions.

Dave Hayward, co-owner of A Hoppy Place, Maidenhead, shared how he is "really proud" to have received the award.

Dave, Jason and Naomi launched A Hoppy Place in Windsor in 2019 and won Pub of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

The Maidenhead pub only launched in 2022 and snapped up the best pub award in 2023.

Dave said: "There are 700 or so CAMRA members in our branch and to get the win means that all of these wonderful people have scored our beer highly and have also considered that overall, we're the best at what we do in the area.

"We have four beer engines dispensing the very best cask ale in fantastic condition alongside our 14-kegged products, and for two years in a row now this beer has been voted best in branch."

Dave added that since the Maidenhead branch opened, the business has been competing with the Windsor branch for the title.

"There's so much brilliant ale and cider served in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead - and we don't at all take for granted what winning this award again means," Dave added.

"There's very stiff competition, a lot of great pubs in the area. So thanks once again to everyone who voted for Hoppy."

A Hoppy Place is also currently in the running for the award of 'Best Wine and Beer Specialist' in Berkshire in the Muddy Stilettos awards.

Dave adds: "What's exciting about these awards is they're completely reader-nominated.

"We find out we're in the running as some of our customers have put us forward - and like the CAMRA award win, it's a good old-fashioned popularity contest.

"We're really excited to find out if we've won and will get the chance to meet the rest of Berkshire's fantastic independent businesses."

The Windsor Trooper has shared that the team is proud to be recognised in the awards and they feel that their hard work has paid off.

"Technically we can say we are the best place to have a drink within Windsor," they added.

"Massive thank you to all the staff who work tirelessly day in, day out! With Accommodation, Live Music, Functions, Festivals, Guest Caterers the Windsor Trooper is so much more than a Pub, it has become the soul of the community in Windsor.

"Our reputation and popularity has grown organically over the years, purely through word of mouth. We are delighted to have achieved so much within five Years."
