Slough residents have been increasingly plagued by nuisance cars blocking roads and taking up valuable spaces in local car parks.

While it cannot be confirmed where each car has come from, the council believe rogue airport parking companies are operating in the area.

Now Heathrow Airport plans to work with local authorities to tackle parking issues.

A new reporting scheme is to be launched which allows neighbours to share data to help authorities focus enforcement.

The data will be shared with councils and police to understand hot spots and best direct their resources in the future.

Meanwhile, awareness campaigns will help direct airport parkers to alternative parking areas already available.

Heathrow plans to work with the local councils, Transport for London and the Police and British Parking Association to help keep residential roads clear for neighbours.

James Holmes, Heathrow’s Head of Local Strategic Engagement, said: "To combat nuisance parking we need to work together with our neighbours, councils, law enforcement and transport partners.

"This new joint action plan will help us collect better data on hot spots and raise awareness among drivers on how to park responsibly when visiting Heathrow.”

Mike Smooker, Civilian Support, Metropolitan Police, said: “The parking issues around Heathrow are wide and varied and it will need a continuing collaborative approach with our neighbours, local authorities and transport partners to combat nuisance parking and rogue operators.

"Having this joined-up approach will help to raise awareness among drivers on how to park responsibly, use reputable organisations and what to look out for when visiting Heathrow.”

Nuisance parking has previously led Slough Borough Council to impose overnight closures of Upton Court Park's car park.

Residents and raised concerns over hundreds of cars parking in the free car park.

On the introduction of the changes, a council spokesperson said: "We believe there may be a couple of issues with this car park - one is the possibility of rogue airport parking companies using it and two is a second-hand car dealer or dealers using the park as storage. Neither of which is acceptable.

"We are targeting those who use this car park as a storage facility, blocking residents from being able to use the largest and most popular park in our borough."

Just last week the council prosecuted Muhammad Akhtar, director of Auto City Trader Ltd, for keeping vehicles for sale on Lascelles Road - just opposite Upton Court Park.
