CHARITY workers were given the Royal treatment after being chosen to meet the Queen in person.

Representatives from Berkshire East and South Bucks Women's Aid were picked from among 4,000 guests at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party yesterday (Thursday) to meet the Queen.

The charity's Chief Executive Officer Gerry Lejeune, former Service User Helen, Chair of the Trustees Jean and fundraiser Caroline spoke at length with the Queen while the other guests looked on.

Gerry Lejeune said: "We have had a wonderful day and I am so delighted that Her Majesty the Queen recognises and values the important support that Berkshire East and South Bucks Women's Aid makes to victims of domestic abuse who live within our community.

"The Queen was very interested in the work and in particular was shocked to learn of the high incidence of domestic abuse in Windsor. The Queen was also impressed to learn about the work, which the charity does to support Eastern European Victims of domestic abuse. She commended the charity and said that she was delighted that the outstanding work has been recognised." The charity was invited to the Garden Party because it has recently received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, for its work with high risk victims of domestic abuse.
