RESIDENTS and local agencies will be joining forces to tackle crime, disorder and environmental issues in Chalvey.

The CREW (Crime Reduction Environment Week) starts on Monday (02/08) with various agencies focusing on the area and dealing with matters such as crime and disorder, litter, overgrown hedges, graffiti and fire safety.

A community clear-up of Baxter Close has been organised for Saturday, August 7, from 10am to noon and an event is being held at the YMCA on Wednesday (04/08) from 10am -2pm where residents can get community safety advice.

Nahid Moghul, community safety project officer for Slough Borough Council which is leading the week of action, said: "The success of CREW events is dependent on resident involvement. This week of action is supported by residents in the Chalvey Forum and is a perfect opportunity for local residents to talk to us, as well as the police and fire service, about any matters that may be troubling them or they would like to change.

During the week, free bulky item refuse collections (of up to five items) are being offered to residents in selected streets, a council service which normally costs £30, so that residents can have a clear out of unwanted furniture, mattresses, fridges, washing machines and so on.

The event is also supported by Action4Chalvey - a proactive community group who run a neighbourhood watch scheme, street patrols and various community based activities based in Chalvey.
