A PINEWOOD Studios boss has paid tribute to an acclaimed film director who died tragically.

Tony Scott, who directed films including Top Gun, True Romance and Enemy of the State, died yesterday (19) after jumping off a Los Angeles bridge.

The 68-year-old from North Tyneside produced the 2012 film Prometheus, which was shot at the Iver Heath studios, and directed a number of films at Pinewood's Shepperton Studios in Surrey.

Pinewood chief executive, Ivan Dunleavy, said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic news that Tony Scott has died.

"He was not only an incredibly gifted filmmaker and ambassador for the UK film industry, he was a significant part of the history of Shepperton Studios."
