POLICE are urging homeowners to make sure their windows and doors are secure to avoid becoming a victim of burglary.
There have been 63 burglaries in Slough since June 1, of which police say 22 were a direct result of insecure windows and doors.
Officers are urging residents to keep windows closed when out of the house, fit window restrictors or use switch timers to make the home look lived in.
They also suggest not leaving valuables on display, fitting outside security lights and not to leave keys near entry points.
Sergeant Chris Softley, from local CID in Slough and responsible for investigating burglaries, said: “The most common cases of opportunist summer burglaries involve offenders either entering via an insure front door while residents are in their back garden; entering doors that are closed but unlocked at night while residents are asleep; and reaching through windows to take valuable items.”
