MORE than £4,000 was raised as golfers chipped in at a council chairman’s first charity golf day.

The South Buckinghamshire golf club in Park Road, Stoke Poges, hosted the day to raise money for South Bucks District Council chairman Cllr Santokh Chhokar’s two chosen charities - Padstones and South Bucks Citizens Advice Bureau.

Opened by legendary television presenter Sir Bruce Forsyth, the golf day featured 54 golfers taking part, and an auction raised a further £1,000, with the money raised from that put towards the Chairman’s Community Fund, which local charities can apply to for funding throughout the year.

Cllr Chhokar said: “The golf day was a huge success and is a wonderful way to bring the community together and have fun while raising money. I am delighted that so much money was raised for our charities and would like to thank event sponsors Berkeley Homes (Oxford and Chiltern) Ltd, Sir Bruce Forsyth for opening the event and also to everyone who generously donated auction prizes.” The overall winners of the tournament on Friday, October 10 were Team Paslode, sponsored by Cllr Paul Kelly, with The South Buckinghamshire team finishing runners up.

Both teams were awarded glass trophies, with the winners taking home the crystal South Buckinghamshire Busby-Reed trophy.
