VILLAGERS looking forward to Colnbrook getting its own museum will have to wait until at least the end of this year.
Ambitious plans to extend the Village Hall in Vicarage Way to include a museum have been discussed in detail by members of Colnbrook Parish Council during the last few months.
But this week Cllr Ray Angell, vice-chairman, said that extensions to accommodate the museum and other new facilities would probably have to happen in stages.
He hoped that a museum and a small meeting room would probably be constructed first at the back of the hall.
A further extension to create another meeting room and increase the size of the store would then follow later.
He said: “This is a wish list.
“I have done some plans myself, but we will need a professional architect to come up with a final plan.
“I have already approached one architect who is conversant with the hall. He is in Uxbridge and may well be able to do the job.” The hall has already undergone a recent £100,000 makeover last year, gaining a new kitchen and bar area and refurbished meeting room and toilets.
But supporters believe extending it to house a museum would really make it a facility to be proud of.
Cllr Angell believes that if enough people or groups which are based in the village get involved, the Heritage Committee could be approached to help provide funds for further improvements.
The proposed museum would house the old Colnbrook fire tender and the old village clock among other historic artefacts.
Cllr Angell expects it will be next year before work is likely to start.
