The family of a man who tragically died after his motorcycle crashed into the central reservation of the M4 are pleading for witnesses to come forward.

Richard Burton, 56, from East London was driving in the fast lane of the westbound side of the motorway near Junction 6 for Slough on Thursday, October 20 at around 6.50pm when the crash took place.

He sadly died five days later in hospital.

His wife, Fiona Flaherty, has come forward and appealed for anyone who may have seen anything.

She said: “I can’t tell you how important it is that he isn’t forgotten. One hundred and twenty people came to his funeral, he was much loved.

“We are just trying to piece together the last moments before the accident.

“We know there are lots of cars who must have seen something. So many people didn’t stop, but people must have seen something. We want to know what happened.”

As well as his wife, Richard also leaves behind two children, including 23 year old son, Alex, who has learning difficulties, a 27 year old daughter, Cierha and a two year old grand-daughter, Ava.

Fiona explained that Alex is currently not really able to understand the situation and may never be able to.

She said: “He just knows that his dad had an accident, but doesn’t really know what it means. Unless we know exactly what happened, he may never be able to understand what happened to his dad.

“Honestly, it would make our Christmas that little bit better if we just knew what happened.”

Family friend Margaret Meaden is helping Fiona with the appeal and believes someone out there must know something about what happened.

She said: “The police have estimated that there could have been up to 2,500 cars on that section of the road that day at that time.

“Someone must have seen something, but no one has come forward yet.”
