The ladies from the Meet and Mingle social group went back in time three and a half centuries when they spent the day with King Charles II.

Aksa Marshal, who runs the award winning Slough based group, received a personal invitation for her ladies to spend a day at Buckingham Palace and visit the Charles II Art and Power exhibition in the Queen's Gallery.

The exhibition brings to life the 17th century, when the monarchy had just been restored after an era of puritan republicanism and art enjoyed a big renaissance.

During their visit to the gallery the ladies enjoyed a workshop learning to dance as they did in the time of King Charles and were even able to try on some costumes.

Mrs Marshal said: "It gave us a really good history lesson and we are so grateful that we were chosen to make this visit.

"We learned exactly how they used to bow when they danced back in that era. The ladies also got to try on hats from that time."

Meet & Mingle is a voluntary, non-profit charity organisation, founded by Aksa Marshal in January 2013. It was established to help women in Slough who feel lonely, isolated, depressed or stressed. The group helps its members to build friendships and have fun through social get togethers and outings.

It has 350 members and won The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017.
