The recently set up Pakistani Christian Association has been given an award for its efforts to bring communities together - in the form of a shield from the Mayor of Slough Cllr Ishrat Shah.

The Mayor's award was handed over after to members of the association when they visited Cllr Shah's mayoral chamber for a chat over a cup of tea and biscuits.

The Association's president Kashan Bennett founded it a year ago, as a way of giving a platform to Pakistani Christians and building bridges between different communities of all faiths and cultures.

He is the father of a five-year-old son and has lived in Slough for 14 years.

The association has members from inside and out of the town and has its next event coming on on Saturday, April 7 in the form of a concert at the Britwell Centre, Wentworth Avenue featuring traditional Pakistani music as well as music from Bollywood movies. It starts at 7pm and tickets are available on the door.

Joining Mr Bennett in his visit to the mayor's chamber were his association's general secretary Aster Khokhar and executive members Ijaz James, Monica Azraiha, Lena Bennett, Aleesa Khokhar and Rayhan Bennett.

Mr Bennett said: "The mayor said we were doing good work and that she would be here for us."
