An angry villager says he and his neighbours are sick of being deafened by railway announcements - when they are not even on the station.

Frank Viljoen, 48, of Sandringham Court, Burnham, says the trouble started after major work was carried out at Burnham station a few weeks ago.

A number of improvements were carried out in preparation for the new Elizabeth line service, including the installation of overhead wires to enable electric trains to come through the station.

But since the work something strange has happened to the volume of the announcements.

Mr Viljoen says that the sound carries as far as neighbouring Sandringham Court and Stanhope Road and is making residents' lives a misery.

He said: "We hear random announcements all Sunday afternoons, even when there is no-one on the station. This was exacerbated over the Easter weekend.

"You hear the constant 'ding dong' and the voice making endless safety warnings and information even if you can't make out what they are saying.

"All the residents have have been complaining about it."

A Transport for London spokesperson said: “I apologise to Burnham residents for the noise they have been experiencing at the station. We understand the importance of minimising noise levels for our neighbours and we are determined to do more to achieve this. Feedback from the local community has been taken on board and work is already underway to adjust the speakers to ensure that any noise is reduced as soon as possible.”
