RESIDENTS are being called upon to have their say to minimise the amount of disruption caused when thousands of spectators flock to Dorney Lake for the Olympic rowing events.

More than 16,000 leaflets are being delivered in the Royal Borough, South Bucks and Slough areas, featuring maps of the traffic and parking arrangements, along with a list of questions and answers to provide additional information.

Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet lead member for the 2012 Games, said: "We are delighted that the Games will be right on our doorstep and we expect the borough to benefit from being recognised as an official host authority.

"However, realistically there will be disruption for residents and businesses in the Eton Dorney area and for people using our roads and public transport networks.

"This is why the council has been working closely with LOCOG to ensure that local needs are not forgotten and that people will be able to carry on as far as possible with their normal daily routines." The Royal Borough cabinet will be considering a report on the Eton Dorney traffic and parking management plan - to minimise disruption to the community - at a meeting on Thursday.

LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games) is also organising a community engagement exercise to raise awareness about the arrangements.

It is also setting up three drop-in sessions to give residents the opportunity to ask questions, get more information and make comments.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, added: "The plans are approaching their final stages and we want to see local people out in force at the drop-in sessions.

"In this way we can ensure that the Royal Borough's needs continue to be considered by LOCOG." Visit www.london2012.com/accessandparking for more details.
