A motorist who mounted the pavement in her car and killed a loving grandfather has walked free from court.

Relatives of Kevin Wood, of Langley Road, were left visibly upset after Tazeem Rashid, 42, of Carmarthen Road, Slough, was cleared of causing death by dangerous driving, at Reading Crown Court, on Monday.

She was also acquitted of causing death by careless driving when she mounted the pavement with all four wheels and ploughed into the 55-year-old grandfather as he walked to pick up his morning newspaper on May 8, last year.

Mrs Rashid, a home help carer for the elderly, had denied falling asleep at the wheel in Langley, due to being overtired because of her heavy workload.

The mother-of-three claimed she had 'blacked out’ and could not remember running over the retired National Grid worker, who died later that night in hospital from severe head wounds.

A jury took nine hours and 46 minutes to return the not guilty verdicts following a five-day trial.
