A CARING couple who fostered their first child 27 years ago have been awarded for their 'passion and commitment’.

Connie and Keith James, from Cippenham, have received a long service award for their dedication to Slough children.

The pair, who have three grown-up children and grandchildren, saw an advert in a local newspaper and fell in love with making a difference to the lives of children.

Jackie Pape, acting head of placement and resources at Slough Borough Council, said: “Congratulations to Connie and Keith for making such an outstanding contribution to Slough’s children and young people.

“The whole family deserves our praise and thanks for the difference they have made.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise the significant contribution our foster carers make; we know the benefits for the children in their care are immeasurable.” Alongside the Deputy Mayor of Slough, Cllr Mohammed Rasib, she presented the award on September 20, at Burnham Park Hall.

Cllr Rasib added: “It’s thanks to our carers that children of Slough can thrive, even when they haven’t had the best start in life. Connie and Keith epitomise what’s best about fostering – helping children regain their childhood.” For more information about fostering, call Slough’s family placement team on 0800 073 0291 or email familyplacement@slough.gov.uk
