PLANS to pump up to £3m into expanding a grammar school have been described as 'win win’.
Cabinet councillors agreed to fund the money for one new form of entry - which will eventually allow an extra 150-180 pupils - at Langley Grammar School, in Reddington Drive, on Monday.
Rob Anderson, council leader, said the funding will help address the town’s need for more school places and the school’s need to improve its facilities. “It’s a win win situation,” he added.
The cash will come from the council’s basic needs grant, passed on by the Government to avoid a shortfall in school places. The school will take on an extra 30 pupils per year.
- Proposals to sell land for housing in Windsor Road, as part of the new regeneration scheme at the 'gateway to the town’, were also passed at the cabinet meeting.
Sorbon Estates plans to demolish the existing dilapidated properties between 81-121 Windsor Road and replace them with around 110 apartments.
They have been given six months to submit a planning application and three years to complete the scheme.
Cllr James Swindlehurst, deputy leader, said: “Giving them three years makes a big difference. We can bring to an end quite a sorry saga and get the outcomes we wanted.”
