FOUR pupils from Marish Primary School have been crowned winners of the inaugural Smooga Cup.
Pupils from Marish and Willow Primary schools went head to head in the mixed hockey tournament on Wednesday.
The competition was being trialled before being potentially rolled out nationally. It was held at the smart multi-use games area at Marish Primary School, in Swabey Road.
Six teams of four pupils took part. The winning team was Dinari Dawkins, Avnika Heer, Mitchell Sayer and Audrey Homwe, all aged 10.
Jason Elwell, director of sports and community at Marish Academy Trust, said: “We aim to challenge students in a competitive environment, whether that’s in a team sport or beating a personal best. I’m pleased to say that since implementing our curriculum we have proven that healthy competition is a great way to help progression with learning and development.” Keith Place, co-founder of Smooga, added: “We chose the Marish Academy Trust to trial our Smooga Cup as the students follow an outstanding curriculum which encourages all students to challenge themselves in a competitive environment.”
