A COMMUNITY united in grief and love came together to pay their last respects to Rajan Gill.

Around 300 people from all segments of the Slough community and beyond attended the funeral of the 20-year-old on Wednesday at Slough Crematorium, in Stoke Road.

An outpouring of dignified grief marked the short, traditional ceremony with hundreds of voices joining together in chanting and singing to express their loss.

Rajan was found in the Jubilee River near The Myrke on Saturday, April 11, after he went missing from his family home in Staunton Road, Manor Park, on Monday, March 16.

His family paid tribute last week. They said: “He held a special place in so many hearts, truly loved by those who knew him. His quiet but happy nature gave joy to those around him while his infectious smile lit up the darkest room. He was the first born great grandson, a dutiful son and an inspiring brother – Rajan was loved by all. He was full of life.” The funeral was open for all who wanted to pay their respects to Rajan to attend and a final prayer was held at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, in Sheehay Way, following the funeral.

An inquest into Rajan’s death has been opened and adjourned. It is due to be held on Thursday, August 27, at Reading Town Hall.
