MARK Tallentire has described the opening day 3-0 win at Mangotsfield United as “the perfect start to the season".
The Blues were too good for a lacklustre Mangotsfield with first-half goals from Kensley Maloney and captain Carl Davies, plus a second-half strike from Tre Fitford.
Tallentire told the Observer: “I’m the same as every other manager, I want to get off to a good start and we managed to do that. It was a good win and to be quite honest we probably deserved a couple more goals as well.
“It was a really good away performance – excellent. Defensively we looked solid. We went there with a game plan and it helped us a little that Mangotsfield weren’t quite at it. It wasn’t a very good day at the office (for them) but that was down to how we worked.
“We wanted to get off to a good start and that was particularly important for us at Burnham because of the poor form towards the end of last season when we didn’t win a game for God-knows how many months.
“We wanted to make it difficult for Mangotsfield and try and bring something back and I was really pleased.
“We had the basics in our performance and we showed that same commitment and work rate and allied that to some great football as well.”
