NEIL Baker had plenty of praise for the Slough Town debutantes after an opening day 0-0 draw with Frome Town on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.
The Rebels lined up with four players making the competitive debuts – Mark Scott, Craig Scott, Nathan Webb and Lewis Putman – with another new signing, Callum Webb, taking his place on the bench.
Baker told the Observer: “I thought Craig was magnificent, he was excellent alongside Guy Hollis.
“I’m gutted that he looks like he might have done some serious damage to his ankle, which is a real blow.
“Lewis did well. It bounced off him a few times but you can see with a couple of balls he put in that he has bundles of ability.
“He will score a lot of goals for us and he will probably create a lot as well.
“I’m pleased because it’s his debut at this level. He has been used to playing at steps four and five.
“I thought Nathan was a little bit quiet on Saturday but he has been excellent for us in pre-season.
“I think Mark Scott is a massive signing for us. He’s dominant in the box and pulled off a couple of good saves as well.”
Commenting on the draw on Saturday, Baker added: “I’m slightly disappointed not to come away with three points.
“We had three golden chances to score and I thought we edged the game.
“But the biggest thing is not to get beat first game of the season and we haven’t been, and we kept a clean sheet.
“It’s not the end of the world but we probably feel we should be sitting here with an extra two points.”

  • SLOUGH Town have signed striker Charlie Mpi from fellow Southern Premier Division club Hungerford Town.

Mpi will begin his second stint with the Rebels having collected a Premier Division winners medal with Hemel Hempstead Town.

Mpi was snapped up by the club after it emerged that both Lewis Putman and Scott Harris are set to miss matches this month, with Ed Smith possibly ruled out through injury.
