SLOUGH Town have been eliminated from this season’s FA Trophy after a 2-1 defeat away at Frome Town on Saturday.

Rebels were knocked out in the third qualifying round after goals from Mitchell Page and Darren Jefferies cancelled out Lewis Putman’s early strike.

The tie was just four minutes old when the visitors’ first attack resulted in a goal for Putman.

A low cross from Warren Harris missed two defenders and was well controlled by the left winger, who fired into the roof of the net.

However, Frome responded quickly and levelled the scores in the eighth minute.

A corner from Jan Davies was headed past keeper Mark Scott by Page, who broke clear of his marker to flick the ball in.

Crucially, the home team took the lead after Slough failed to build on their only goal with a number of misses.

Scott pushed the ball into the path of Jefferies who managed to find the back of the net via the inside of the post on 33 minutes.

Rebels almost managed to equalise three minutes later when a Ryan Hope shot was cleared off the line by Jordy Nkunga.

In the second-half, Frome saw a penalty appeal turned down when Liam Monelle appeared to be tripped by Justin Clayton.

The hosts were then reduced to 10-men as Monelle, who had already been cautioned, was show a second yellow card for simulation.

It was a controversial dismissal but Rebels could not take advantage and their time in Somerset ran out.

Slough return to action in the Southern Premier Division when Stratford Town visit Holloways Park this Saturday (3pm).

In Southern Division One South & West, Burnham suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Bridgwater Town on Saturday.

An own goal by Blues keeper Samuel Gray gave Bridgwater a half-time lead at Fairfax Park.

Goals from Sam Towler and Reeko Best made it three-nil before substitute Nadir Shariff pulled one back for Burnham.

Best secured the points for Bridgwater with his second goal of the match seven minutes from time.

Burnham travel to Larkhall Athletic on Saturday (3pm).
