A HECTIC spell of golfing social events at Stoke Park Golf Club has concluded with the annual captains' drive-ins.

The new men's captain, seven-handicapper John Sweeney, has been a member at Stoke Park since 1999, and owns an air-conditioning business.

His contemporary in the ladies' section, 27-handicapper Julie Cunnah, who has been a member for eight years, dressed in festive style to celebrate her drive-in.

Around 150 club members attended the two drive-ins and the subsequent presentation dinners, where more than 80 trophy winners were heralded.

Director of golf, Stuart Collier, explained: "The golf club remains a massive part of everything that goes on here at Stoke Park and the social events are always well attended, and well enjoyed too.

"Congratulations to all this year's trophy winners and also to the new captains who, I am sure, will continue to lead the club with distinction in 2016.

"We are welcoming new members all the time and I would urge them to take advantage not only of the myriad club competitions but also the buoyant social scene."

Stoke Park Country Club, Spa & Hotel is one of just two five-AA Red Star golf clubs in England, and the historic land on which it stands is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.

The historic course played hoest to the PGA Matchplay in 1910 and, even more famously, the golf match between Sean Connery's James Bond and Auric Goldfinger in the 1964 film, Goldfinger.

It also has a thriving golf club with around 800 active members.
