BURNHAM Beeches moved into a share of the lead in East Berkshire Division One after a 3-2 win against Stoke Poges Saints on Saturday.

Beeches have now won their last four league fixtures and, with top-of-the-table Richings Park not in action, drew level at the summit on 21 points.

Stoke Poges eliminated Burnham from a cup competition earlier on in the season so went into the game full of confidence.

However, the home team, with a number of key personal missing, started brightly and went in front when summer signing Chris Woods – playing only his second game of the campaign – rose highest to convert a right-wing cross from Wez Dupont.

They were not ahead for long as the Saints levelled midway through the half, capitalising on some poor defending.

Burnham went into the half-time interval ahead after Woods grabbed his second of the period, again beating the visitors’ defence in the air. This time he headed in directly from a Dan Stock long throw which caused confusion in the area.

Stoke Poges started the second half determined to drag themselves back into the match and levelled once again with a neat finish.

The hosts deservedly grabbed all three points via an unlikely source with 10 minutes remaining. A speculative effort from Sam Frost alluded the Saints keeper from 25 yards – his first goal since April.

Windsor Reserves suffered late drama for the second week in a row when letting slip a lead and conceding with the last kick of the game, going down 4-3 to a fortunate Iver Heath Rovers.

The away team went into the match bolstered with a strong squad and full compliments of substitutes.

They created the first clear cut chance as Owen Richardson had a shot rattle against the crossbar, a superb effort from 30 yards out.

Iver Heath however made the breakthrough when a midfielder ran through and fired home, giving stand-in keeper Daniel Sharp no chance.

Windsor responded and equalised moments later thanks to captain Jack Evans. He set up fellow centre back and man-of-the-match Ben Chauhan to sneak in at the front post and fire home.

In the second period, Windsor had the early chances but again failed to convert and were punished by the Rovers, with a little help from the referee.

Play was allowed to carry on after a dangerous tackle and Iver finished smartly over the onrushing keeper.

The visitors made changes and responded quickly as sub Rajan Gill put through Hayden Richardson, who was fouled inside the box.

Richardson dusted himself down and slotted home the penalty kick to equalise.

Windsor kept on going and took the lead with a fine individual strike from Travis Richardson-Hodge. The youngster cut in on his left and fired past the keeper.

Many thought it would be the winning goal but Iver and the referee had other ideas and, with five minutes to go, a soft penalty was awarded for a push inside the box.

The Rovers converted to restore parity at 3-3.

In the last seconds of the game, a long punt forward by the Iver keeper resulted in confusion in the Windsor defence and saw a striker nip in and set up the winning goal.

The result sees Windsor remain in seventh place in the Premier Division table, with Iver Heath going second ahead of title rivals Chalvey (WMC) Sports.
