SLOUGH Cricket Club have suffered a second defeat early on in the new Home Counties Premier League season after a 23-run loss away at Tring Park on Saturday.

Tring set a target of 257-8 from their 50 overs with Benjamin Abbott (57) and Michael Payne (57) both reaching a half-century.

Slough skipper Bobby Sher led from the front with the ball with figures of 3-37 and Steven Greene (2-50) took two wickets for the second week running.

Shaan Khan (33), Lloyd Paternott (31) and opener Nabil Shah (30) gave Slough a chance at 116-4 but, when Naveed Akhtar was dismissed for 67, they were bowled out for 234 in the final over.

Douglas Pratt (3-46) and Payne (3-50) took three wickets apiece for the winning team.

Slough host Great & Little Tew at Upton Court Road this Saturday (11.30am start).

Also in Division One, Burnham were beaten by 53 runs at home to Henley.

Batting first, Henley made 208 all out from 49.3 overs with skipper Michael Roberts top-scoring with 92. Muhammad Haroon (3-28) and Adnan Malik (3-46) were the best of the Burnham bowlers.

In reply, Burnham were dismissed for just 155 in the 43rd over as the hosts failed to back up Aftab Khan (75) and Rizwan Nadeem (28). Euan Woods took 4-38 for Henley.

Burnham welcome Banbury to Taplow Common Road this Saturday (11.30am).

In Division Two, Cookham Dean lost by five wickets at Oxford while Datchet beat Aston Rowant by 81 runs.
