ALAN WALTERS has explained that reaching the Bucks Bowl final this season would be a fantastic achievement for Slough.

The Greenies have a three-year plan to move the club forward and have given opportunities to young players at Tamblyn Fields.

They failed in their bid for a hat-trick of victories when losing 28-18 at home to Risborough in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier on Saturday.

But, Walters is looking forward to a tough Bucks Bowl semi-final tie away at rivals Phoenix this Saturday (3pm).

“We’re trying to change the culture and attitude of the players, and bring in a different format when it comes to discipline,” Greenies’ assistant coach told the Observer. “It is not going to be a quick fix but it’s working well.

“We’re working with a lot of young players who I believe are the future of the club, and may not have got this opportunity in the past.

“We’re looking forward to a tough game on Saturday and know Phoenix will be strong. We’re looking forward to a local rivalry but a game played the right way.

“We will be looking for variety and see what we can do differently because Risborough sussed out our attacking pattern and pushed us out wide last weekend.

“From my point of view it was quite disappointing. We’ve encouraged the team to win more but obviously they picked up on where we attacked before. We beat them comfortably in the cup but they stopped us from playing to our gameplan .

"I've had one-to-one talks with all the players but it's tough to come back from 14-0 behind when you're playing into the wind.

"Risborough sussed out our attacking pattern and pushed us out wide. We scored late on trying to get back into it but it was too little too late."
