BRITWELL fight star Stanlee Wilson swapped mixed martial arts for bare knuckle boxing and has the chance to become a world champion this Saturday.

Wilson, a two time British MMA champion, clashes with Christian Evans for the light heavyweight world title in Hartlepool, and the 30-year-old plans to grab the chance with both hands.

“I’m the underdog for the fight and am going in against a great champion,” Wilson told the Observer.

“On paper, it will be tough because he is a great fighter and more experienced, but in the fight game anything can happen.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have been offered the fight, but I am a boy from Slough with the chance to become a world champion, so I’m going to take the opportunity with both hands.

“I believe I can win, some will not, but I will come back and show them my new belt on Monday.

“I’ve seen Christian fight a few times. He’s slick and technically very good, but it’s a world title fight so you’ve got to expect that, and may the best man win on the night.”

Wilson added: “I’ve been offered a fight at the top of the game so preparation has been a little bit different to what it would be for a normal fight.

“The training has gone well but I train pretty hard anyway. I just have to do that extra little bit. Do the extra mile or spar that extra round because there’s something at the end of the tunnel to aim for.”

The world title fight is being delivered by UBBAD Promotions, the first and only legalised bare knuckle boxing promoters in the world.

“I absolutely love the sport and wish I had made the change years ago,” said Wilson. “When you compete it’s like ‘Wow, where have you been!’.

“I’ll never say never on a return to MMA. If I get a phone call and it is right for me and everyone else then it’s something to think about, but now I’m focused on bare knuckle boxing.”
