WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletics Club were not in the medal hunt at the South of England AA Road Relay Championships over the weekend.
The local club sent a large contingent of athletes to Rushmoor Arena in Aldershot and, though it was not to be this year, there was a highly creditable performance from the senior women.
The team was a blend of youth and experience with two Under-20 (U20) athletes in the squad and placed fifth, their highest position for a number of years.
Charlotte Firth proved the fastest with her time of 13:27, with Sarah Chapman (U20) on 13:48, Dani Barnes 14:03 and Felicity Johnson (U20) 14:14.
The WSEH veterans team had former internationals in their line-up. Marina Steadman was timed at 16:05 and Paula Hing on 17:11.
Ex-5,000m world record holder Paula Fudge – in a rare appearance these days – was credited with 18:54, and Elaine Moore with 22:15. The team finished in ninth place in the Vets category.
The WSEH senior men also achieved their best place for a while with seventh spot. Alex Tovey led off with an excellent second place in 18:10, but the local club slipped down the echelon on the subsequent legs.
