THE long wait for a win at Maidenhead United FC continues after a 3-2 defeat away at Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

The Magpies have not tasted victory since Boxing Day and are now eight matches without a win in all competitions.

They ran Basingstoke close at the Soccer AM Stadium but now find themselves in the lower reaches of Conference South.

Basingstoke took the lead on five minutes when Manny Williams converted a cross from Nathan Smart.

Their advantage lasted less than a minute though as Danny Green shot beyond keeper Stuart Moore and into the corner of the goal.

The hosts’ lead was restored in the 12th minute when Shaun McAuley capitalised on a mistake from Jacob Erskine.

Tashan Adeyinka levelled the scores for Maidenhead on 26 minutes, but Basingstoke were soon in front again.

Louie Soars latched onto a short free-kick from Tom Bird and drove the ball inside the near post on 38 minutes.

To their credit, The Magpies refused to lie down and Dave Tarpey saw a shot come back off the post before half-time.

They nearly drew level in the second-half when Nathan Smart cleared off the line and Green rattled the bar with a free-kick.
