GARY Reeves insists Burnham FC must learn to deal with the fact that they will play in the Southern League Division One South & West next season.

The Blues, who were relegated from the Premier Division last year, have been moved from Division One Central into South & West after a revision of the league’s constitution.

The move, which included Marlow and Flackwell Heath, was ratified by the Football Association (FA) earlier this month, though The Heathens have since declined promotion.

Burnham chairman Reeves, pictured above, told The Observer that his club are not happy with the decision, but believes they must move on quickly.

He said: “I’d be lying if I said I was jumping through hoops about it but you’ve just got to get on with it. We have had to move and now we’ve got to deal with it.

“We have spent many a day talking and discussing what our options are but we’ve just got to do what we need to in order to deal with it.

“I’m not entirely happy with their decision but why would we take the club down another level? We’re happy with what we have structured and the club is moving forward.

“Sadly Flackwell have declined promotion which is a crying shame because they won the league (Hellenic Premier) and had a fantastic season.

“All this lateral movement happens and we’re in the South & West now, and we’ve got to get on with the job.

“We’re a little bit battle-hardened after two years in the Southern Premier and travelling great distances on a Tuesday night, like Weymouth and Poole.

“Some crum of comfort is that we will be going to some good grounds in nice areas. There are some trips we’re looking forward to.

“We’re not in the league we wanted to be in, but we are in a good position to put a team out and get into the top half of the table.” Reeves also believes that the switch in leagues has not effected their recruitment process, with Burnham set to host a ‘players’ evening’ for potential signings next week.

He said: “There are always some players that don’t want to play in the league but as far as I’m aware recruitment is going well.

“Mark Tallentire (manager) has been busy popping around and talking to players. He’s done very well and we let him deal with the football stuff.

“There’s no point in being negative. We’re all on the same hymn sheet and on course to move the club forward.” The FA and Southern League have declined to comment on the decision to move Burnham into Division One South & West.
