SLOUGH Cricket Club celebrated a successful year with their end-of-season presentation evening at Upton Court Park on Friday.

The first team performed well in the Home Counties Premier League, bagging a huge win against champions High Wycombe and victory over county rivals Reading.

Berkshire ace Waqas Hussain won the best batsman award after scoring 600-plus runs and was named the Players' Player of the Year.

Raja Nawaz was the best bowler and Nabil Shah the number one fielder.

The supporting senior teams, playing in the Thames Valley League, enjoyed success with both the third and fourth sides winning promotion from their respective leagues.

Ali Ahmed (batsman), Nadeem Syed (bowler) and Danyal Akhtar (fielder) starred, whilst their second team colleagues voted Umar Asif for the Players' Player of the Year award.

The third team finished as runners-up to Datchet Cranbourne in Division 5b with Zakar Ali the star performer.

Ali took 53 wickets to finish as leading wicket taker in the league, also winning the club’s best bowler and Players’ Player awards. Raheem Akhter was named best batsman.

The fourth team finished second to Hayes 2s in Division 6a with Kashif Hashmi (best batsman) scoring over 700 runs for the title of leading league scorer in the league.

Waqas Kasmi was Slough’s best bowler and Ali Khan voted as the Players' Player of the Year.

The future of Slough cricket also looks bright after the Under-11,15 and 17 teams all won in their respective Berkshire cricket finals.

Humza Ishaq was the ace in the pack for the U11s, Uzair Majid starred for the U15s, and Pavinder Bachu put in a captain's performance for the older age group.

Pat Ellis, the widow of former Slough chairman Tony Ellis, handed out the awards.
