LYNCHPIN completed a famous treble this season when lifting the East Berkshire League Cup after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out win against Iver Heath Rovers.

The two Premier Division rivals were locked at 0-0 following two hours of cup final football at The Gore, Burnham on Bank Holiday Monday.

However, Lynchpin held their nerve to win a dramatic shoot-out and add the League Cup to their league and Norfolkian Senior Cup prizes.

“I’m over the moon to have secured the treble, however I’m disappointed not to have got the winning result during the 90 minutes,” said winning manager Riley Smith.

Lynchpin started the game brightly and won their battles, playing decent football on a very hard and poor surface.

In the first-half they dominated without creating too many clear-cut chances.

In the second period Iver Heath saw a bit more of the ball and it was more of a contest, but they were unable to really cause the Lynchpin backline many problems as they were limited to only a couple of half-chances.

Jamie Jackson in the Lynchpin goal only had to pull off one save in the two hours of football leading up to the penalty shoot-out.

Riley said: “We did create a number of what I would say were half and good chances to score, and I’m disappointed that we didn’t capitalise on a few of those, but as the legs started to tire neither side looked like scoring and penalties looked almost inevitable.”

Jackson made a couple of decent saves and the Lynchpin penalties were scored by Stuart Moulder – with a clever chip over the keeper – and Dean Thornton.

Then it was left to John Airs to tuck away the winning, and somewhat controversial, penalty to see his side to victory and the treble.
