WHEATSHEAF Dons have been crowned Thames Valley Premier Division champions following a 3-2 win against Windsor Warriors.

After a disappointing result and performance in the Roy Lester Memorial Senior Trophy, Wheatsheaf were determined to cap-off a very promising season by securing the three points necessary to win the league.

The Dons went into their final match against Windsor as the only unbeaten side in the division and were confident they could clinch the title on their final outing of the campaign.

Windsor though did not read the script and definitely came to Farnham Park to spoil the party.

A bright energetic start saw The Warriors take the lead on 15 minutes and in blistering fashion with a fantastic half-volley.

Windsor doubled the advantage 10 minutes later.

This seemed to awaken the sleeping giant and a slick goal poachers finish from midfielder Tendekai Mutemeri reduced the gap before the first half was up.

The second half saw Wheatsheaf increase their intensity and start to push Windsor back.

The Warriors’ resolve was duly broken by a very polished and accomplished fox-in-the-box finish from young substitute Ellis Fuller.

The goal levelled the scores at 2-2 and set up for a breathtaking finish.

Fuller proved too much for the Windsor defence to handle and in the dying moments of the game he won a free-kick 15 yards outside the box.

Wheatsheaf top scorer Lawrie Toombs floated in a dangerous cross-come-shot that was misjudged by the Warriors keeper, who up to that point had an outstanding game, and the ball ended up in the back of the net with two minutes remaining.

Dons manager Gary Bradshaw, below, said: “I’m very proud of the boys who have capped a very challenging season by winning the Thames Valley Premier Division.

“We were more disappointed with how badly we under-performed in the cup final than actually losing the match, but the league is always the priority and we are extremely pleased to have come out on top of some very strong sides, and also remain unbeaten in all league matches.

“Cup finals are a good day out but beating the best sides over the long haul is much more satisfying achievement especially as the Wheatsheaf-Stoke Poges Dons alliance only happened this season.”
