A second-half strike by Johnnie Dyer and an added time goal from substitute Jake Parsons were enough to give The Rebels victory on Saturday.
Meakin was left frustrated as he watched his side miss golden chances to level the game.
But he is not reading too much into the loss, positive he saw enough to suggest that they will be fine this season.
Speaking to the Observer, he quipped: “Frustration I suppose is the word I can use because I did not feel the result was fair.
“We didn’t deserve to win the game by any stretch, but I think a draw was fair.
“The second goal was irrelevant, that was just going to happen because we were going for the win. It was an even game, two even sides.
“I thought it was going to be 0-0. As the game wore on I thought it was going to run out goaless and I would’ve taken that.
“The first game of the season is a million miles and hour, you feel like you can’t breathe.”
