ZAHEER 'Bobby' Sher has called for Home Counties League officials to introduce the Duckworth Lewis method after Slough CC's rain-affected defeat at Henley.

Henley were the last side to beat Slough on June 22, and the seven-wicket win on Saturday confirmed the Oxfordshire club as Division One champions.

Skipper Sher argued it was a 'frustrating' way for Slough's impressive eight-match unbeaten run to end, but admitted his side never got going at The Brakspear Ground.

"If the league want to bring 50-over cricket in, they need to make sure it's done properly and implement the Duckworth Lewis method," Sher told the Observer.

"Duckworth Lewis takes into account wickets, this doesn't, it's done on averages.

"It's a bit frustrating but we're happy with where we are and what we've achieved." In a rain-affected match, Slough were invited to bat first but could only set a modest target of 132 all out.

Henley needed 100 runs from 23 overs to win via the league's current method, and they reached the target with 30 balls to spare.

"The toss was always going to be crucial and Henley put us in," Sher continued, "It was hard to get momentum going because we were on-off all the time.

"But we had to play in case we could pull out a win and keep the championship going into this week.

"Unfortunately it didn't happen because we were bowled out cheaply." Slough travel to Potters Bar on Saturday (11am start), where a win would aid neighbours and fierce rivals Burnham's chances of survival.

"We beat Potters Bar pretty comfortably last time, but they're fighting relegation so it's going to be tough," said Sher.

There was no play between Tring Park and Burnham last weekend. The Blues host second-placed Banbury on Saturday (11am).

Farnham Royal and Falkland, the bottom sides in Division Two West, did not get underway at Church Road.

It leaves Royals needing a positive result at Gerrards Cross this Saturday (11am).
