SLOUGH Hockey Club ace Isha Thind was the star on show at the Thames Valley Mini Hockey Tournament last Sunday.

A mixed Slough under-10s (U10) side welcomed 16 clubs to Upton Court Park, including teams from Reading, Marlow and Wokingham.

The hosts started slowly and lost their first two matches, but they were in fine form as the morning progressed.

The final three games were very close but Slough players grew in confidence and competed well with Thind’s tenacious contribution keeping them in every match.

Slough U8s travelled to Henley for a Thames Valley Mini Hockey Tournament under the guidance of coach Jas Sandhu.

The young stars fought hard and were unbeaten in five games. They look strong as they progress into the second half of the season.

The Upton Court Park club entered a scratch U12 team into the Thames Valley Mini Hockey Tournament at Marlow.

They travelled with some trepidation as they sought to blood three new players but their fears proved unfounded.

After two tense 0-0 draws with Marlow and Maidenhead, some neat interplay between Eddie Salvadori and Rishi Nanda saw Slough take the lead against Reading.

However, it did not take long for a well organised Reading team to peg them back and the match finished all square at 1-1.

Their last match against Bracknell was also a very tight affair until the deadlock was finally broken inside the final minute.

A diagonal through ball from Nanda saw Salvadori drive through the defence and coolly slot home from the edge of the area.

Afnan Sadiq was outstanding in goal and very unlucky not to have kept a clean sheet in all of the games.

Debutantes Namrata Juneja, Avnika Heer and Rebecca St Ledger all proved very versatile and showed great promise.

Dileep Singh and Sahib Dhaliwal oversaw a much-improved back line with some of their best defending of the season.

Slough U16 boys beat Gerrards Cross 2-0 in a well-balanced and hard-fought match, where both sides had chances to score.

The Upton Court Park outfit broke down the Cross defence with some great ball movement to eventually take the lead.

The second goal came from a well rehearsed short corner routine and solid effort from Daniel Buckledee.

It is a fourth consecutive win for Slough who now top the Mercian Home Counties Colts U16 Challenge North table.

Credit for their success goes to coaching from Jas Sira and Harpreet Dahele, as well as the hard work and dedication of the players.
