CHARLOTTE Murzynowska has celebrated her birthday with a win in the Farnham Common Junior Squash Club Championships.

The annual competition started with the club’s Under 9s who have all shown massive improvement over the last year.

Their event consisted of fun games and match play, and the eventual winner was Amrit Sharma.

Archie Pearson finished in a very close second position, whilst the mixed U11 championships was played at an exceptionally high level.

With 12 players competing, the club has seen its numbers grow year on year, along with the quality of squash.

The winner was birthday girl Murzynowska and the runner-up was Katie Oaten.

There was fierce competition in the boys’ club championship as a new crop of young players took the helm at the top of the rankings.

After four rounds of matches, the final was between top seed Lewis Court and third seed Arjum Mistry.

It turned out to be a great match with Court taking the spoils with a 3-1 win.

Other noticeable performances came from the trio of Corey Wood, Joe Tricker and Jaisal Mistry.

In the girls’ side of the draw there were a determined set of club members who put everything into their matches.

The final was a nail-bitting match between the same players that had competed for the title last season.

This year, however, the result was reversed with Lucy Varco taking the win over Dani Oaten, who had won for the three previous years.

The final was a thrilling contest with Varco eventually winning 3-1.

Head coach, Matt Davies, said: “Congratulations to the winners and all our players for raising the standard of their game at this prestigious club event.

“Congratulations also for their hard work in training during the season, and to their commitment to our growing and thriving junior section.” For more information about Farnham Common Sports Club call Davies on 07530 850966 or e-mail mattdaviescoaching@gmail.com.
