SLOUGH Hockey Club ladies need only three more wins to secure the Women’s Conference West title this season.

The Upton Court Park side have dominated the second tier of women’s hockey and can soon look forward to the promotional play-offs.

On Saturday, Slough moved one step closer to the title with a 2-0 home win against Trojans.

The hosts started with intent and successively made their dominance felt with a goal inside five minutes.

Laura Bailey sent the ball across goal and Charley Brydon set up Melissa Ball for the simplest of tap-ins.

Following the goal, Slough pulled back their pressure and allowed Trojans to penetrate their attacking circle.

However, the defence, marshalled by captain Kathryn McGonigle, were equal to the threat and Slough took a 1-0 lead into half-time.

The hosts started the second-half as they did the first, by maintaining possession of the ball and controlling the match.

They came close to scoring a second on numerous occasions, but it was not until the 52nd minute that Brydon finished-off further skilful team play.

Slough keeper Asha Tranquille-Day was barely called to duty but performed well when Trojans did manage a shot on goal.

Slough coach Kail Takher was pleased to secure the points, but left frustrated by the poor conversion rate of chances to goals.

It is something that will need to be resolved ahead of their trip to Swansea City tomorrow (Saturday, 12pm push back).

On Sunday, Slough head north to play Stourport (10.30am) in a fixture that has been re-arranged from February 14.
