YOUNG Slough cricketers played a pivotal role in the success of Berkshire County Cricket Club’s Under-16/17 teams this season.

The U17 County Championship side enjoyed wins against all the other group teams in either the one or two-day format.

They were captained by Slough CC all-rounder and St Edwards School pupil Feroz Baig.

The skipper hit 174 runs at an average of 24, and weighed in with 20 wickets with a best of 7-45 against Huntingdonshire.

Another Slough CC star, Daniyal Akhtar, showed his all-round promise with 132 runs and seven wickets. The Slough & Eton School pupil returned best figures of 4-38.

The leading run scorer was 16-year-old Mohammed Avas of Upton Grammar School who hit 474 runs at an average of 40.

Avas smashed 113 against Jersey Festival winners Oxfordshire and made four other scores over 50.

Windsor CC all-rounder Kevin Dass (Westgate School) scored 321 runs at an average of 25, and took important wickets with his off-spin.

The young Berkshire teams were coached by Tom Lambert and Wilson Gumbs while other local youngsters who made appearances during the year include Will Harris and Sagar Kanwar.
