GEORGE Carman Snr has predicted a big future for two of the biggest boxing talents in Slough this year.

His son, George Michael Carman, burst into the limelight when crowned the IBO Light Welterweight World Youth champion in November 2012.

The following summer he added the WBC Silver Youth Welterweight title, with both wins coming in front of a full house in Slough.

Carman, 22, makes his reappearance against William Warburton at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Saturday and is already targeting more championship glory.

Carman Snr believes the two-time champion has become a better boxer after working with John ‘The Don’ Brennan, who recently made a successful return to the ring, and hopes the pair can bring major titles to Slough this summer.

Speaking exclusively to the Observer, he said: “It has been a big help having John in the same gym because I used to train my nephew Darren Codona, but I think he has retired now.

“John has come in and the two spar well together, they are both similar weights so help one another. One does well and the other wants to follow, they’re bringing each other along and are both on a good level. There is a big future for the two of them.

“George will have his 16th fight as a professional and we are stepping the opponent up. If he wins on Saturday we’re trying to get Breidis Prescott, the bloke who beat Amir Khan, over in the summer.

“We’re trying to step it up if we can but it depends how much money it is. We have offered other fighters, we asked Sky for Lee Purdy, but we haven’t been able to quite get that one on the table.” Carman Snr continued: “I can see a big future for George and for John this year. I hope we’re going to bring two titles to Slough in the summer, and then after that we are going to be looking for major titles.

“I am going to be looking for two intercontinental titles if we can get them here, it’s never been done in Slough. We have got the sponsors behind us now and have two good fighters in the area.

“We are looking for the town to get behind us, which we know they always do. The Montem Leisure Centre and The Centre were packed when we boxed there, so just imagine if we bring two big title fights to Slough in the summer.

“We have got some good talent coming through in the juniors, but at the moment George and John are setting the pace. The two of them could bring big titles to Slough and encourage the younger boys.” **SEE Friday’s Observer for all the latest sports news and action including more boxing action** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
