SLOUGH recorded their biggest win of the season in the BBO Premier after a 43-5 thrashing of Risborough on Saturday.

The Greenies were far too good for their visitors at Tamblyn Fields and registered back-to-back home wins for the first time since October 2014.

The driving wind and rain left the surface heavy underfoot but it did not slow down a rampant Slough team as they put Risborough to the sword in a physical but pacey game.

The Greenies started brightly, but were guilty of rushing phases and not penetrating the visitors’ defence until a turnover and quick well-executed handling unleashed Mikey Spandley.

He opened the burners to out-sprint the defence and score under the sticks. The try was converted by the returning Rob King.

The half remained a loose affair with the home team’s greater game plan and fantastic link play between forwards and backs leading to scores from Colby Short and Joe Sole before the break.

A healthy 17-0 half-time lead was over-shadowed by a serious looking injury to lock Dominic Herron in only his second game back from an injury setback.

The second half followed suit with Spandley opening the scoring. A try for captain Max Miles and a brace for Ashley Morgan added to the scoresheet as Greenies’ dominance throughout the match started to wear a tough Risborough side down.

The weary visitors just managed to cross the line once towards the end.

The win sees Slough remain in eighth position in the table and well clear of the relegation places.

Greenies head coach Darran Brown was enthusiastic about his team’s performance.

He said: “Some of the link play and players’ attitudes were outstanding.

“They tried skills that usually would be hidden in those conditions, so credit to every player, and the guys off the bench all added to the performance.

“It is a standard that we will be building on for the remaining fixtures this season.

“Another plus, alongside the performance, was that the injuries sustained to Dom and Michael are not as bad as first feared and both will hopefully play more as the season closes.”

Slough will bid for a third win on the bounce at home when bottom-of-the-table Wheatley visit on March 5.

Slough Under-13s played some of their best-ever rugby during a match away at Phoenix on Sunday.

The young Greenies scored four unanswered tries in the first of three 20-minute periods.

Chika Enekwa, Sachin Chadda, Will Eremia and Tyler Simpson all touched down with Cristian Callero booting a conversion.

In a tight second period, Jermaine Bennet scored Greenies’ only try with with Callero adding the extras.

Slough scored 27 unanwsered points in the final period, featuring a hat-trick from Simpson.

Alfie Spiller and Chadda also crossed the whitewash with Callero added one conversion.
