ALAN WALTERS believes that Slough produced an outstanding performance to win 39-17 at Milton Keynes in the Bucks Bowl on Saturday.

The Greenies were in scintillating form to score seven tries in the quarter-finals tie and set up a semi-final at home to rivals Chesham on November 18.

The magnificent seven scorers were Rhys Amos, Max Miles, Matthew Collins, Robbie Morrison, Jack Jones, Sam Rowe and Joe Sole. Miles was also successful with two of his conversion attempts.

Speaking to the Observer, Slough head coach Walters beamed: “The first half was the best rugby we’ve ever played in my tenure as coach. We were 30 points ahead at half time.

“It was an outstanding performance and we absolutely destroyed them.

“The only thing that was disappointing for us was that we could not repeat the performance in the second half, We were so far ahead but let them back in with a couple of late tries.

“Milton Keynes brought in some new players because we were so dominant in the scrum the last time.

“Our style of play was less dominant this time and the performance was still only at about 30 per cent, which again angers me as a coach.

“When you know the game is won at half time you tend not to over commit because it would take something brilliant from the opposition to win from that position.

“Milton Keynes worked hard to stop us from scoring, but for 25 minutes we just toiled.”

He continued: “We have had a lot of injuries but we’re starting to get the group back together.

“The players are working very hard now, both as a team and as individuals, and we have back up in key positions which is important.

“The players want to play with a set piece and a gameplan, and confidence is a massive part of that.”

Looking ahead to the clash with Chesham in the semi finals, Walters said: “It will be a tough game because they’ve made a bright start and are looking quite sharp.

“We’re a totally different animal now to when we played them last year, so it could be a very close game, but I think we will come out on top.

“However, the cup is a bit of a distraction for us because our target is to win promotion.”

Slough are currently in second place in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier and return to league action with a visit to Tamblyn Fields from Tadley this Saturday.

Walters commented: “Tadley have made a very similar start to the season so we will look forward to it and see where we are.”
