SLOUGH Town suffered defeat on the final day of the Southern Premier Division season after a 2-0 loss away at Merthyr Town on Saturday.

The Rebels conceded twice after losing keeper Mark Scott to injury and Dan Hicks to a red card.

Slough made their way to South Wales with aims to end the season on a high but, after two blows, Merthyr coasted to all three points at Penydarren Park.

Merthyr saw appeals for a penalty turned down early on when Kayne McLaggon raced into the area and went down after a challenge from Hicks.

A penalty was awarded to Merthyr on 19 minutes as McLaggon travelled into the area and was challenged by Sean Fraser. The challenge looked to have been a good one but referee Adam Matthews awarded a penalty.

Ian Traylor stepped up but Scott went the right way and made a fantastic save.

The Rebels suffered a blow early on in the second-half when Scott was forced off with injury. With no keeper on the bench, midfielder Gurkan Gokmen took the gloves.

Things got worse for Slough minutes later as Hicks was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Keyon Reffell.

Merthyr quickly took control thereafter and, on 65 minutes, Reffell beat Gokmen from inside the box to open the scoring.

The Red Insure Cup winners doubled the lead four minutes later when Rhys Baggridge headed a free-kick beyond Gokmen.

The defeat means Slough will finish the season in 17th position in the table.

Burnham finished their season to forget with a 1-0 defeat against Bridgwater Town at The Gore.

Bridgwater swept into the lead with a superb header from captain Josh White on 17 minutes.

The Blues' best chance fell to defender Luke Egdar, whose placed shot came off the post and rolled along the line before being cleared.

Burnham have now been relegated out of the Southern Football League and will play at step five next season.

Maidenhead United cannot reach the National South play-offs this season after a 2-0 defeat at Weston-super-Mare.

Wilson Scott and Dayle Grubb were on target for Weston in the second-half.

Maidenhead, now eighth in the table, host Concord Rangers on Saturday.
