SLOUGH Town supporters cheered on legends of the club who laced their boots once more for an exhibition match at Farnham Park on Saturday.

The two teams, managed by ex-Slough players and managers Darren Wilkinson and Eddie Denton, entertained the crowd with a game that finished 3-2 to Denton’s side.

The event, now in its second year, was again sponsored by Tom King of the Herschel Arms in Slough, and raised about £440 for the club.

Debbie Lillywhite is a Slough fan and helped to organise the legends match. She told the Observer: “It went really well. There is always a good turnout from the players who enjoy the event and really make a game of it.

“It was a fast-paced game and quite surprising how good it was. Seeing old players and friends is the best part of it.

“This year Adrian Blake came and played. He is quite a close friend but I haven’t seen him for 15 years!

“It doesn’t raise a lot of money but has the potential to get bigger and we try and improve on things as we go.”

Wilkinson was unfortunate not to see his team, in the traditional yellow kit, take the lead when a effort early on was ruled out for handball by the linesman.

Denton’s side, in the away purple kit, made them pay when Marcus Richardson, who scored 10 goals in his Rebels career, beat his man and placed the ball past Jamie Jackson.

Craig O'Connor doubled the lead by chipping a lovely effort over the keeper from a tight angle into the opposite corner.

The Yellows pulled a goal back when Dan Hicks, a member of the current Slough squad, headed in from a corner.

The Purples restored their two-goal cushion when Pritpal Raju ran through and chipped the ball into the net.

Into the second period and the yellows had another goal chalked off as Matt Miller strayed offside.

Miller, who scored 19 goals in 105 games for Slough, then put the ball into the net from a Paul Coyne cross but again the linesman denied him.

The former Rebels striker finally got his goal with a low effort from outside the box, but it was not enough to stop Denton and his team from retaining the legends title.

The start of the 2016/17 season marks an exciting time for Slough with the club set to move back into the borough with a new stadium at Arbour Park, and the addition of several quality players.

Lillywhite said: “I’m looking forward to it a lot and moving into a new stadium. It’s what we have always wanted, to finally be back in our own home.

“It has been a long time coming and it’s just a shame that people like Chis Sliski did not get the chance to see it come to fruition.”
