CHARLIE MOONE believes that Slough Town can achieve just about anything this season after marking his debut with a goal on Saturday.

The Rebels got their homecoming year off to the best possible start as goals from Moone and Warren Harris secured a 2-0 win against 10-man St Neots Town.

Moone, who joined Slough from Isthmian Premier Division winners Hampton & Richmond Borough in May, believes the opening day win was important to hit the ground running.

And he is confident that his new teammates will continue to work hard for success this season.

“I’m really excited to be a part of Slough. The move has refreshed me. I’m really enthusiastic and enjoying my football, so long may that continue here,” the 27-year-old told the Observer.

“We’re going into an exciting time in terms of the new ground, so I’m just enjoying it and I think that anything can be achieved really.

“There is a bit of a buzz in terms of new players coming in and the boys that were here previously are really strong as well.

“We’re building a really good thing, but I don’t know about other teams in this league. However, winning it doesn’t happen on the first game of the season so you can’t say you’re going to do it.

“That’s something I’ve definitely taken experience from last year. It’s a long hard season so we have to take each game as it comes, and there are a hell of a lot.

“Once you leave a club I think you look forward and we at Slough are definitely concentrating on ourselves.

“We all want to win every game and I think that’s important. We just want to go out to play well, work hard for each other and win.”

Commenting on the win against St Neots, Moone said: “I think it was massively important to get a win on Saturday. It was a great start to the season for us at home.

“We had a good pre-season and we wanted to hit the ground running, so it was a great result.

“There are a lot of new players, myself included, coming into this team so we’ve gelled really well, but until you start a competitive game you don’t know.

“We played well against Harrow so we felt good, but the truth is until you get the three points you don’t know, so we’re absolutely delighted.

“It was a team win, that’s what it feels like. The boys are really close and that’s important because it will help us this season. We all want to work and play for each other and the management.”

Moone scored 12 goals in a title-winning Hampton team last season, and he was delighted to get off the mark at Holloways Park on Saturday.

He explained: “In pre-season I said I wanted to score as many goals as I can so obviously it means a lot to hit the ground running.

“I’ve been brought in to score goals so to get off the mark is brilliant, but it was more important to get the win for the team.

“I always go out in every game to try and score as and when I can, but it’s hard.

“To be honest every striker wants to hit around 20, so I guess that would be a target, but I just want to score as many as I can and win, taking each game as it comes.”
